Birthday bonanza!
March 22, 2019 9:54 amMarch has been a month full of birthdays in the Nicholas Jon office, so of course we’ve all been out celebrating the best way we know how – with lots of eating!
Andy kicked off the celebrations with a trip down to London and a visit to Dinner by Heston. With much pestering from us back in the office, he made sure to send us all photo evidence of some of the dishes served – obviously, none of us were at all jealous when looking at our own lunches that day in comparison…
So, I hear you ask, how did the 2** Michelin experience at Heston’s measure up? Well, Andy only needed one word to describe it – “phenomenal”!
Next up, Nick had a staycation of sorts and travelled down to the beautiful coast line of Dorset. Apart from the tranquillity, fresh air, and relaxation that comes with a trip to the beach in early Spring, the English coast is full of hidden gastronomic gems!
If anyone knows how to do a Sunday lunch right, it’s Nick, and his trip to Restaurant Roots in Bournemouth certainly looked the part! Big fluffy yorkies, crispy roasties, and a joint of beef to make your mouth water! Nothing better than sun, sea, and a happy stomach!
To celebrate going into the final year of my 20’s, I embarked on a journey much closer to home to see what culinary delights awaited me on our very own door step – I was headed for the bright lights of Birmingham!
I had never been to Simpsons before, and sure enough the Michelin star restaurant did not disappoint! The six-course tasting menu was outstanding – the wine pairing, even more so! I’m really into my wine and I especially love the theatrical element that comes with choosing the wine paring to go with a tasting menu. In this instance, I must say the Pina Colada cocktail which accompanied the Rum Baba dessert was the unexpected stand out for me!
Here’s looking towards what the next year will bring…. Bon appetit!
